Kennedy began what was known as The Green Berets in Vietnam.
You can nit-pick however you like, but JFK was a great commander in chief. And when he blew it at Bay Of Pigs he took responsibility and apologized, unlike Bush who never takes responsibility for any of the disasters and criminal schemes he creates or lets happen.

Other presidents who took responsibility for their actions: Reagan, Truman, Eisenhower, Clinton and Carter.

Those who did not, Bush and Nixon.

It's called character.
