Parliament celebrates its centennial in 2006-2007

The Parliament of Finland celebrates its centennial in 2006 and 2007. The 100th anniversary of the approval of the Parliament Act and Election Act by the Diet will take place on June 1st 2006. On May 23rd 2007 is the 100th anniversary of the first plenary session of Finland's unicameral Parliament.
..
The centennial focuses on the parliamentary reform of the early 20th century and the introduction of equal and universal suffrage and full political rights for women. The centennial will be celebrated nationally and internationally, as well as bilingually in Finnish and Swedish.
..
A hundred years ago, Finland was a part of the Russian Empire and the four estates in the Diet represented only a small segment of the population. Through the new parliamentary system and electoral act Finland, although not yet an independent state, acquired the world?s most modern representative assembly. A universal and equal franchise was adopted and Finnish women became the first in the world to obtain full political rights.

Obviously no two-party system, not to forget GerryMandered funny Voting Districts, since maybe some few dark years in the late 1700s.
