Re: my personal opinion is that AMD will have a lot of price adjustments to make

Why would you think that?

Mainline AMD 3.2ghz vs. mainline 2.66ghz Intel.
Cherry picked AMD 3.4ghz vs. cherry picked Intel 2.93ghz.

Here's the line up for late summer:

AMD INTC
3.4 2.93

3.2 2.67
2.8-3.0 2.39
2.4-2.6 2.16
2.2 1.86

As long one system overall isn't burning 50+ more watts than the other, buyers go by mhz.

AMD learned that lesson the hard way, and I expect we're going to see that class audited by Intel later this year.

Do you really think more than 1% of buyers will be able to detect a performance difference between a 2.33ghz Conroe and a 2.6ghz Athlon X2 when they're working on their word documents and spreadsheets? (the highend sweetspot parts from each company)

But they will be able to tell that they get more mhz per dollar from AMD, from otherwise identical appearing and performing computers.

Keep in mind what P4 did to Athlon, until P4's power consumption grew completely out of control.

Consider two Dual Core machines: One's clearly a 64-bit (Athlon 64 X2) and is running at 2.2ghz. Would the typical consumer pick that or clearly slower 1.86ghz Core Duo? Isn't core related to Apple? Does it even run windows?

;-)
