I myself don't trade VIX derivatives but I watch them. As long as there is a big discount to VIX that means that investors are still too bullish as they don't believe that high VIX will stick. More from Heinz: stock market continues to look crashy - there must be a number of hedge funds caught in the emerging markets rout. looks like they're now selling everything - presumably because they have no choice.
