No need to go as far as to a Great White to understand the risk of getting too close to them. Check in with the September Halibut Derby up in Homer, Alaska.

Those monsters, albeit "friendly" halibuts only, are killed using a shot gun while still hanging in the crane well outside the boat. A full 350 pounds of powerful halibut can do a lot of harm to you by one fast sweep of their tail ;)
