my last driveway lasted twenty years and still was in good shape one coat of asphalt i always sealed it , not every year. Last year i added another asphalt coat over the driveway as it had settled in twenty years. in winter water can get into cracks etc and freeze it break up the driveway. it pays to seal it. driveway guys will come bye with an asphalt cutback and spray or spread some liquid heated sealer over your driveway and tell you it needs to be done every year and do not use latex etc. i use the can stuff do it myself as i have no idea what they these driveway guys are putting down. i usually am exhausted and collapse after it but at my age it is an accomplishment. my driveway is about 1400 sq ft. usually four 5 gallon cans keeps in good shape. i got stuff that is supposed to last until seven years.. figure that means in four years i will be out there again. maybe g

oh, i used to handle accounting for asphalt sales out of refinery decades ago. there are lots of ranges of asphalt. i remember my first house in rhode island if the kids put the kick stand down on driveway it would go through the asphalt. i didn't complain to builder though.. it was suggested strongly by my neighbor not to...

found my old driveway sealer snickers, and jeans, all washed and dried for the big event.
