Quad graphics chips might not be worth it. I think the only way to see performance gain with them is to run with top of the line CPUs (or the CPU would be the performance limiter), on certain specific games (one that have very high GPU requirements and are somewhat less demanding on CPUs) at very high resolutions. Even then while you might be able to see a difference in benchmarks I'm not sure a high end dual GPU setup wouldn't perform with adequate frame rates.

But if quad GPU systems are mainly about bragging rights, dual GPU systems are beneficial to a wider range of hard core gamers.
