Kerry never said he was badly-injured. You don't have to be badly-injured to get a Purple Heart just injured in battle. Bob Dole also received one of his PH's for a small sliver wound. But sliver wounds can and do kill. If you watched BAGHDAD ER (and please do to educate yourself on the terrible reality of war) the soldier who died was only hit by a sliver of shrapnel. Slivers can be more deadly than bullets. They cut through arteries very cleanly.

PS: Kerry still has shrapnel in his thigh. He is a combat hero. Accept it.
