Wharf Rat.. you only addressed the portion of my post that dealt with volcanoes, but completely ignored the premise that declining phytoplankton levels in the oceans have depleted its ability to deal with existing, let alone additional, emissions of C02, whether man-made, or natural.
And I presented the example as one possibility of additional, yet unaccounted for, emission of CO2. But Volcanoes also emit tremendous quantities of Sulphur Dioxide and particulates, both of which are responsible for blocking sunlight and thus, result in cooling of the earth.
But the whole point I'm trying to pound the table on is that the prevailing scientific thrust is IGNORING the possibility that decreased oceanic flora could be JUST AS RESPONSIBLE for global warming as extra emissions.
The world is full of viruses and bacteria, WR, as you well know. But do we focus solely on eliminating these viruses in our environment, or do we focus upon rendering our own immune more capable of assimilating and destroying them internally?? Can we really hope to utterly eliminate the amount of contagions in the world? No...
The same analogy can be used for the planet's oceans. When natural events lead to elevated levels of C02, botanical species react to this enhanced growing environment by increasing their reproduction rates until efficienct equilibriums are restored (for lack of a better way of putting).
But they can't do this if they lack the additional elements that facilitate their growth, namely mineral nutrients.
Thus, if the evidence of decreasing oceanic floara is correct, then OF COURSE CO2 levels are going to increase because oceanic floar LACK the mineral nutrients to take advantage of all that extra CO2.
Again.. 90% of all CO2 sequestration occurs in the oceans.
ISN'T IT COMMON SENSE THAT WE SHOULD FOCUS ON ENHANCING THE ABILITY OF OCEANIC FLORA TO ABSORB THIS EXCESS CO2??
Especially if it has the additional added benefit of assisting in replenishing marine food chains and mitigating the problem of over-fishing??
Why is that such a "taboo" topic to discuss?
