All the turbines in the Erie Shores Wind Farm are now operational.
David Price, owners’ project director with the Clean Power Income Fund, said the last turbine was commissioned on Thursday. Actual construction and assembly of the turbines was completed early this month. After construction is complete, each turbine must be commissioned and tested before it can start generating electricity.
Price said all that’s remaining is some final testing and cleaning up the construction sites.
Seeing the last turbine operational has been a long journey for project developers AIM PowerGEN. Work on the project started in the summer of 2002 after Jay Wilgar came up with the concept of the wind farm.
“It’s been a great venture involving local municipalities, landowners in the area, AIM and Clean Power,” said AIM president Mike Crawley.
As for how the turbines have been turning out power, Price said “the wind has been fairly good to us considering we’re now coming into the worst time of the year.” Traditionally, the winter produces the most power and summer the least.
