First of all, when so many people like yourself are willing to support incoherent wars as long as you don't have to fight in them, that leave us little resource to take care of the problem and a lot of time to look at the past. And there is plenty from the past 5 years that still needs to be looked at and that wont go away with sound bites like the one you tried using on me.

With that said, yes at this point it would be nearly as foolish to pull out of Iraq as it was to go there in the first place.

If the right was not so preoccupied over the last 5 years trying to spin this mess into the war on terror then we would probably have some of those workable ideas you mentioned in your post. The left may or may not have workable ideas for Iraq. The right never did.

Perhaps we should ecercise the democracy we are trying to establish in Iraq right here in the US. A few more ideas...

Scrap that mess of a constitution in Iraq for something more favorable to all three segments of the Iraqi population and make them sign onto this for 30 years minimum. They should live with the idea that after 30 years they may or may not turn into three seperate autonamous regions, to be determined later on and depending fully on the situation at hand then, not now. That may begin to calm the civilian uprising among the Sunnis. And for these 30 years they should be governed by a more losely formed Iraqi government with NEW and more credible US leadership pulling the strings.

Take that inadequate Iraqi fighting force out of the 4 regions that remain hostile and DRAFT an Iraqi force large enough to handle those regions. Cut that force off from interacting with the general population when they are not on duty. That may sound unreasonable but it will take that type of sacrfice from the Iraqies for there country to ever work.

Those are a couple of different concepts and surely there are more and open for debate.

Lets see what you come up with...
