Hey mph,
Yes, I admit it probably was directed toward that post about "you lose". Maybe I am overly sensitive, but it's so hard to keep a thread free from the personal judgments we are all prone to make, and Dale tries so hard to keep things clean here, that I reacted to what I perceived as a deterioration into the personal, rather than a defense of the opinions held. It made me uncomfortable since there isn't a lot of established camaraderie between you and E.
My opinion of the speech was expressed in an earlier post:
I just reread the speech, fascinated by the opposite impressions here. The whole thing exudes finality and victory. The hard part is over, some clean-up necessary, got to find those WMDs, but wow, weren't we amazing, and thank you thank you, we have prevailed. There is even a paragraph that manages to conflate 9-11 and Iraq cleverly.
The implications were anything at the time BUT limited to one ship or one small step. It was a big time victory speech. In rereading I am somewhat nonplussed by the arrogance and confidence in it. And somewhat embarrassed.
But I also admit at the time, I was sincerely hoping that he was right, though I feared it was premature. And I also thought Bush looked good in his flightsuit.
Now I am going to take Dale's advice, stop drinking coffee, and officially start vacationing. Though I am not sure exactly how one does that. |
