2-3 years ago when my house had major exterior renovations, the crews for half the subcontracted work (painting, plastering) were Mexican. The subcontractors charged very high prices, by my standards, and the work was excellent--the best I have ever seen. I have no idea what they were paying their workers, who worked harder and more efficiently than most of those on the other crews that were made up of U. S. employees. My daughter heard one of the latter say, "I don't care how long this job takes; I am getting paid by the hour." That guy did get fired.
