That's the Achilles heel of corn-derived ethanol in a nutshell.....IMO the only purpose for corn ethanol (other than the rather obvious political one) is to "prime the pump"....to facilitate infrastructural developement while we wait (and hope) for cellulose ethanol to be developed. Keeping in mind that EROEI for North American corn ethanol should account for the use of natural gas expended in fertilizer production and petroleum expended in pesticide production, it's a clear loser in EROEI at present, and frankly the main reason it's being used is to discourage serious efforts at promoting conservation. (i.e, "we don't have to conserve because we have ethanol...gimme the keys to the Yukon, mac!") Denial is not just a river in Egypt.....
