The hallmark of science is that it changes with new data and improved theories.

Thats why in the 1970's scientists were talking about a new ice age* and now they're talking about global warming.

*Oh yes, and over-population - they were telling us mass starvation was just around the corner because there were far too many people in the world - I recall a science professor talking that up quite seriously.

Science has been politicized again and again. It's happening again now. The lesson is you should take scientific pronouncements with a big grain of salt - especially the "urgent", sky is falling unless we ... type of claim.

If you read up on the history of CO2 and global warming, starting back about 100 years, you will find that up until sometime in the 1970's most scientists dismissed the notion,

There isn't a 100 year history of scientists discussing the issue of CO2 and warming. I recall seeing the theory first in journals back in the early '80's.

as they held to a belief that somehow the earth had a stable temperature,

Did anyone ever think this historically? Actually it seems to be what the bogus hockey stick shows and the global warming folks are saying now - the world had a stable climate till just a few decades ago (I just got through replying to a guy who said there was no medieval warm period yada yada. )
