The experience of the past 5 years would appear to prove you wrong I don't see how the past 5 years contradicts the necessary-but-not-sufficient hypothesis regarding performance. Meanwhile, how do you expect Intel to be able to compete with AMD when it takes 7.5 Intel staffers to do what each AMD staffer does? How do you figure that? Are you taking relative marketshare into account? Besides, I'm more worried about the whole economy crashing, right now, than what AMD or Intel may or may not manage to do. I do share some fears regarding the general economy.
