SEC questions KLA-Tencor on options
Tuesday May 30, 4:36 pm ET

KLA-Tencor Corp. said Tuesday a government probe into its stock option practices expanded with an informal inquiry by the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The San Jose-based company (NASDAQ:KLAC - News) said it would cooperate fully.

The SEC probe comes on the heels of last week's subpoenas from federal prosecutors about the timing of the chip-equipment maker's executive stock option grants, and an announcement by the company that it appointed a special committee to conduct an internal investigation.

KLA-Tencor was among 17 companies found at high risk of having backdated options in a report issued by the Center for Financial Research and Analysis.
