"The whole concept of buying and selling coins at coin dealers is such a advanced idea to a backwater of a place like HK."

I have one dealer, who depending on which coin he has in stock, will sell to me at 1% market and buy at spot. That does include American Eagles which have a premium it seems. (Pandas and Eagles both have some premium on Ebay..) I think the Eagles have a premium perhaps because of their potential use in IRAs. Krugeraands, Austrian Shillings, and Mexican Pesos tend to have little markup. However for most people the markup is along the lines of 5% for coins and 2 to 3% for bars.

How open is the gold market in Shanghai, Beijing, etc..? The same as HK or somewhat restricted..?
