I can predict whether a hurricane is coming by looking at clouds but that's not all that reliable.

The Weather Channel sounds easier.

Since the scientists go back millions of years to determine temperature data from old rocks and fossils, and they still can't agree on the import of it all, I don't see how a century or two of hurricane observations tell us more than a short-term trend, if that. And even in that period, I doubt that accurate data is available for more than a relative handful of storms compared to all that took place.
