Many people are not healthy enough to hike, mountain bike or kayak, yet they too enjoy the outdoors. Hardly anyone has the ability to hike the distances needed to really get to the so-called wilderness. About 10 years ago I hiked much of Arches National Park as I have a THING about natural arches. Well, there was a transposition error in our map and what it said 2.5 miles one way was actually 5.2 miles one way. Well, I made it but ran out of water on the way back, damn near died, told my wife to go on without me and bring help if she made it (she is 10 years younger then me) but she refused to leave me and dragged my body back (haha). Anyhow, we made it, went to the park service office, showed them the map I got from them and to THEIR HORROR they realized they had transposed the distance. Wonder how many people made that trip on foot. We are talking DESERT conditions and much sugar sand along the way. jdn
