It's quite a bit more than that. Single socket motherboards are about $250 less than dual socket boards. They aren't in the EATX format which means you don't spend an extra $150 having an exotic case shipped to you and it's easy to fit where a regular PC will fit.

Using unregistered memory improves performance by about one speed grade and cuts costs by another couple of hundred dollars.

Bottom line is that you get a machine that's suitable in size, performance, and price for gamers. We'll have to see what they charge for this part but it's probably going to be $500 to $1,000 less than buying a pair of Opteron 2XX parts.

This could be a very compelling platform for high end home users at a price point that will allow for some significant volume.
