Dan, its price point will be such that it amounts to a PR stunt, and little else. Call it the "we have no answer to Conroe" system.

So you know how it will be priced? Please, fill us in.

EDIT: How about instead of "4 x 4" we use the non-PC term "Rice Rocket" for this new initiative? Lots of noise, fins, and decals, but mediocre performance when it comes to actual driving... :)

I don't think you know what a "rice rocket" is.

Poor Intel, they'll be back to pushing single-threaded performance since they'll be unable to scale with AMD. No halo effect. Every benchmark win will have a little "*" next to it, with one of your precious footnotes stating that the results are limited to two threads or less.

Now we know why Dell bought Alienware, and why Sun won't bother with NGA.

AMD can compress the price range between value and performance, knowing that the up-sell avenue of choice will be upgrading from 1 socket to 2. ASPs are going to climb.

IOW, the question on the consumer's mind will be "1 AMD FX vs. 2", not "AMD vs. Conroe".
