Eracer, so far we've about always complained about AMD marketing. Sure "4x4" is done for marketing reasons because it has to be done to keep image until new transistors and K8L bring additional performance as a place holder for the real thing. Meanwhile AMD should ramp the heck out of fab 36 and fab 7 to transfer it's mix to DC as soon as possible in order to keep growth prospects until 65nm.

I'm not complaining about "4x4", I'd be complaining if AMD wouldn't have reacted.

Far more important I think this day was a success. The whole event was a marketing tool and I think it was effective at that. Intel has been doing this for ages; it's good for AMD's image that they can in fact now follow Intel's example in a general sense. Image as seen e.g. by analysts and investors, not consumers. Consumers will love Conroe/Merom but will take X2/TX2 around xmas and after at significantly lower prices enabled by a fast shifting mix (DC/SC) in Q3 (start of Chartered, continued ramp of fab 36).

Regards,

Rink
