DouG;
My dreams weren't dashed. But yours just were. You are unhappy that AMD is going to make Conroe outmoded. Face it FSB and external memory controllers are just so bad that all of Intel's hype went to their head. Now they are stuck with a bad platform and wrong headed choices that have just become so obvious that Dell couldn't stay an Intel only shop.
Perhaps now you will go to the standard Intel refrain, "Just wait for ...". Problem is that Intel just lost the "platform" battle.
Customers wanted more differentiators. Intel's response, do it our way, Centrino, ViiV, Pro, etc. AMD's response, sure. We will allow you to attach the coprocessor of your choice. We can add it as a SB connected CP, CP embedded into the SB, CP HT tunnel, CP embedded into the NB, CP connected via hot plug HTX slot, CP into socket AM2, CP into socket F or CP on CPU die, your choice of method. Which way do you want to go? And if you don't want to design your own, you can choose from these CPs already made. Intel's one size fits all platform strategy just turned into an unwanted pumpkin. Intel has only itself to blame.
