That might be an effective promotion.

Figure gasoline averages $3.50 over the year (its lower than that now). Lets say the vehicle gets 15 MPG (rather low for a new vehicle and less than a number of cars on that list get), and the driver drives 15,000 miles. So 1000 gallons. $1.50 per gallon. Net cost $1500. I think it would probably wind up costing more like $1000. I think that this promotion would work better for GM than just knocking the price down $1000.

Of course if you lower the price of gasoline for some people there is some incentive to use more of it, so I can see why you don't like the promotion much.
