People's ethics are only changed if technology becomes their master.
How do you tell which is which?

In 1846 anaesthesia for operations was invented. In 1874 Lister developed antisepsis to make operations much safer. Abortion was one of them. In 1973 the USSC ruled abortion was legal. The ethical ramifications of that are still rolling. You can argue that decision made the Religious Right and elected GWB. The possible does affect people's view of these questions. Final proof that homosexuality is genetic would have tremendous effects. They would then fall under anti-discrimination laws.

Schliemann? Many Turks (and many archeologists) view him as little better than treasure hunter. The methods he used in "excavating" Troy destroyed much of the evidence we'd now like to have to reconstruct the history of that site. And I wonder if they got the right site. Troy seems much too small to fit Homer's description.
