While SOES traders generally have a neutral effect on a stock price, since they buy and sell in equal quantities and never take home any stock, with VVUS, SOES traders may help boost the price. This is, of course, because of the large short interest. Temporary rises in prices caused by SOES traders can help shake out the shorts. So, while the SOES trader may just sell the 1,000 shares he bought within an hour and won't really add to the stock price, the 1,000 shares that a short was forced to buy at market because of the temporary price rise won't be resold and will increase stock value.

K Mac...I've been looking into giving up my broker license and becoming a SOES bandit. I checked out Broadway, but I didn't like their DOS system. I find a Windows platform much easier for SOES.
