"Any other "benefits" you think are worth mentioning. Ed"
Well there is this ... you probably wont benefit though.
We have reached such a fine state of tolerance for political corruption that now voters and pundits proudly proclaim their support for the 'lesser evil' they perceive to be the politician on their side. The lines are drawn and more importantly than anything else is whether your side or theirs looses seats.
Its 'the IN thing.'
We know politicians are corrupt but the economy is holding up, even strengthening. We know that there is brutal injustice in the world, but it is being kept at bay... away from our neighborhoods. We know that polution and waste is building up an environmental debt but we are living in comfort. We know that relationships are losing value as a trade off for the occasion of popular and sought after lustful affairs. We know that corporations are depraved but we may also benefit from such a system in time, and we are all too busy pursuing that to take time out for much else.
In general we are satisfied with our society. We don't care what made society the way it is, as long as we can maintain the status quo life style. We enjoy the abundance of this life style and it costs us little in the short term.
What about the long term... When the economy fails, our wealth is spent on unproductive programs, we are brutalized and oppressed under an unjust system, we have no protection, and we become sickened while living in increasingly unhealthy conditions, ... will we be helpless to do anything about it? And what is worse, we may not have even enough honor left in our culture to even want to recover our nobility. For example suicide, infanticide, euthenasia, abandoned children, and lives lost in addiction are becoming more popular.
Actually I worry that we may have already passed the point of no return... "for what if you gain the whole world but lose your very soul"
Support for the evil on your side... hhhhooooboy. Sad, huh? Well maybe you don't think so.
