Jimmy Carter was the only true Christian president in modern times, and inherited a mess after Vietnam and Watergate.
Carter inspired the New South and the south has never been better off. Now the south has backslided into more divisve old racist ways.

Carter was also very unlucky that a sandstorm ruined his daring Delta Force hostage rescue attempt. Carter was also the victim of the Reaganite shenanigans dealing secretly with Iran to keep the hostages until after the election. After that Reaganites started sending arms to Iran. Part of the deal. Reagan also armed Saddam of course and looked the other way when he used poison gas.

Carter made some mistakes, but one great thing he did (which Reagan dismantled immediately) was build a huge solar and clean fuels program and fuel efficiency plan which, if left intact would have had us off Arab oil a decade ago, and we'd have much less pollution. That is my biggest beef with Reagan. Why did he do that? In the pockets of big oil. Not as much as Bush, but too much. Anyway, Carter should be highly respected. He's also the best ex-president we've ever had, though Clinton is trying to do him one better.
