>>Not sure what the point of that quote is. ("zip drive performs fastest in the internal SCSI format") We all know that SCSI zip drive performace is much higher than parallel.

If the point is internal vs. external, I doubt very much that their is any difference in performance between internal and external SCSI. There is absolutely no technical justification for it.<<

Jon -

Once again, as I catch up on the thread after a couple of days, I will risk responding to something that might have already been covered.

In fact, there is a good possibility that an internal Zip might perform better than an external one in some installations. That's because many common SCSI cards limit the top speed of the external SCSI connector to 5 mb/sec, whereas the internal connectors are allowed to run at the card's maximum, which for regular SCSI 2 is 10 mb/sec. The reason for this is that external cabling and connections are not quite as reliable, especially when the SCSI chain contains multiple devices or when using long cables. So higher data rates can yield errors. SCSI is very sensitive to small variations in electrical conditions.

Most of the time, the difference wouldn't be noticable with a Zip drive, but it would certainly be measurable.

BTW, someone said that any Nomai XHD disks entering the US would be stopped by customs, due to intellectual property laws. I believe this is not true. A patent holder's protection comes from his/her/their ability to bring suit against anyone who violates the patent. The various law enforcement agencies of the federal government do not seek out patent violaters on their own.
