Don't delude yourself. The U.S. is not there to let Iraqis have any liberty or autonomy or any improvement in quality of life. If we did, oil would rocket to $200/brl. We are there to have access to their cheap oil and enrich certain American corporations (and yes even at $71 oil is still very cheap - Europeans have been paying $4 and $5/gal for decades now). What really interesting is listening to all the right wingers talk like they really care about the well being of Iraqis. Give me a break!!! If you really cared, you people (the right wingers, not you specifically) would denounce your gas guzzling behemoth SUVs and huge Macmansions and greed and super sized portions that's making you all obese requiring vast amounts of air conditioning power (read more oil) just to cool your fat (not to mention the vast amounts of health care that would be required soon), and push for a more economical and healthier lifestyle for all Americans. Instead you keep giving tax cuts to your 1% richest selves while mortgaging America's future (see recent article posted on the "baby" tax) and we are there in Iraq murdering innocent people just so that we can have access to their resources that your lifestyle so desperately needs. Just amazing watching the right wingers hide behind that hypocritical facade. There is genocide taking place in Africa. Do you see us there? Do you see the rightwingers up in arms about it? Of course not. Hell, there are ACTUAL WMDs in N. Korea. Do you see us there? So why Iraq? Because Iraq has oil that we so desperately need yet we are not willing to change your lifestyle in order to give those Iraqis a true chance. So let's cut the pretences and all the "liberty" and "democracy" BS. We are there for their oil plain and simple. And as long as we continue on a course of no change to OUR lifestyle away from that oil dependency, we would continue to be just a bunch of hypocrites with a selfish greedy agenda and to hell with everyone else.

You want true change? Start by changing yourself first. The wife and I have already started (all hybrid vehicles now, moved to a much smaller home that is all solar powered with xeriscape and decluttered our life). Much more to do.
