Wrong. Kerry volunteered for combat. The paperwork is on awol.com. Scroll down and you'll find the actual original document. Kerry may have waited to enlist and volunteer until he had to go or finagle a draft-dodge, but there is no evidence he ever tried to avoid combat.

On the contrary. And it stems from his father's pride in him, and how he raised him to be a daredevil, marksman, pilot, skipper and outdoorsman. His father was no effete type. he raised Kerry to be tough, courageous and dutiful to his country.
