Nonsense. Ok, let us assume they reach their goal. Do they merge with Mexico? Assuming the US lets them, and the history of succession is pretty grim, why would they voluntarily go back to grinding poverty and corrupt governments? Those that live here know that police don't always shake down for bribes and local officials don't always go to the highest bidder.
