A phony idea, but humorous for it's irony:

nypost.com

The statistical opium peddelers-the public "pollsters"-say the price of gas will have a major effect on the off-year elections. It never has had much effect. And in this day when gasoline is only a tiny part of the budget of anyone who's not a Democrat deadbeat, it will probably register even less.

Immigration as well-while being heavily promoted as an issue will matter little-because America is really NOT of one mind on it.

Unfortunately for the former issue, the general apathy will keep the Republicans from taking advantage of the simplest and most effective slogan since "There you go again":

"DEMOCRATS: ANWAR!"

"DEMOCRATS: ANWAR!"

"DEMOCRATS: ANWAR!"

That's unlikely to be needed in any but a tiny number of districts.

The biggest danger to Republicans: Any House candidate running on a platform of "Send 'em all back!". Unfortunately, they don't seem willing to learn that lesson until they see their returns come in.

One possible positive outcome: The Dems have talked themselves into expecting a 1994-like win in the House. When it doesn't happen, perhaps the party will line up for the term limits cause. It would make a great spearpoint issue for the crusade to kick the domestic enemy out of the Democrat party, when combined with a serious effort to win Hispanic conservatives over...
