Doug, at 45nm AMD might well use immersion, and Intel is not likely to do the same, that is according to the latest I read. Also per Hans Intel would not initially use high-k at 45nm (that's important in my eyes).

So AMD is scheduled produce some 6-9 months after Intel, but then it'll have two production techniques that are not leveraged by Intel (immersion and SOI). Not exactly bad wouldn't you say? Intel MIGHT still be ahead in strain, but it can't be that far because about all low hanging fruit in this area will have been reaped before that (at 90 and 65nm).
