"What, you mean despite Doug's innumerable INTCmaniacal Conroe posts, "

he will be beating that drum even harder in the near future. I am glad I have him on ignore and don't read his posts any more. It is going to get ugly.

We haven't seen anything to indicate yields are bad on NGA. The ramp is about as usually done. If they have yield and/or bin split issues, that could explain the apparent panic at Intel HQ. They are acting like AMD did when they ran into production problems with 130nm K7. And AMD came within an inch of bankruptcy over that one. I think Intel is heading towards being unable to cover up a loss.

Given the rumblings, I suspect that Intel is going to have to do what AMD did during that time. The OEMs are going to want Intel to swap out dead product, and soon. Yes, they don't have right of return, but AMD is building enough capacity so that Intel can't just tell them "tough, you bought it, you eat it". Because, if they do, AMD can step in and say "we want to work with you on this. When we were in a similar situation, we took care of you. If they won't do the same, how about giving us more sockets. We won't screw you"...

Maybe this is the real reason why AMD is pulling out the stops on production.
