I agree with that. I'm just saying that declining to recite THE Pledge is not the same thing as declining to pledge one's allegiance to the country. It's not the perfect proxy you're making it out to be. There are plenty of people whose allegiance to the country is firm but who won't recite that particular set of words.

If a man declined to have a ceremony each year to renew his marriage vows, would you conclude that he doesn't love his wife? If so, then there is only a handful of loving husbands in this country.
