you can't eliminate the fear, the anger, and the personality flaws in every solider in the US army.

I suspect these only become a major issue when the military is forced into a multiyear struggle that it is not trained and equipped for. The army that swept across Baghdad and tossed Hussein out of power is the same force we now ask to ride around in vehicles as targets for insurgents that they can't hope to root out and defeat permanently for many years, if ever.

Slow, grinding insurgencies in foreign lands with foreign languages and cultures have never been a strong point for the US military. I blame this much more on the powers that be that stuck them in this situation than on the troops themselves.
