We are not fighting terrorists in Iraq, we are fighting insurgents who want their country back. Big difference. When we invaded Iraq and disbanded the Baathists and the Iraqi military, we created a huge power and security vaccuum into which these bad apple angry insurgents rushed. They looted Saddam's ammo dumps (which Bush left unguarded) and got ahold of enough explosives to make a million IED's.

It's time to quit calling Iraq "the war on terror". It's not. True there is a small Zarqawi contingent somewhere in Iraq, and lately they're reported to have teamed up with Sunnis, but we can't really do what much about it, because if we focus on attacking Sunnis, we further splinter the country and widenm the riffs of the civil war. And if we attack the Shiites (in league with Iran?) we are attacking the ruling party. So basically we're stuck. and there is no easy way out. But one thing is for sure, "winning" is not going to happen, ever. The best we can hope for now is damage control, pulling back and crossing our fingers. That's not cutting and running it's common sense smarts.
