While it's not yet time for scientists to worry about being layed off for lack of things to sudy, the maps of the universe are slowly being filled in, much as the maps of the world were a few hundred years ago. The "under-sea world of Jaques Cousteau" did not create a new place, but advanced the knowlege of places which were already there.

It may come to pass that there is another dark ages and the many things learned will be forgotten.
