Ted, For an example, if some Brazilians and a few Argentinians blew up Fort Knox, its very unlikely we would invade Brazil and Argentina. Why? Because they are Christian like us among other reasons.

We attacked Christians in Kosovo because they were "ethnically cleansing" Muslims, didn't we?

That's true.......but the issue at hand is why we intervene more frequently in ME affairs than in other areas of the world. More specifically, why are so aggressive in our intervention in the ME and not SA. After all, they both have oil and other resources that we need.

I still think one of the reasons is that SA is primarily Christians. Our gov'ts on the right seem more comfortable with that group as a whole. But there are other reasons......we have treaties and trade agreements with SA countries; less so with ME countries.

Our intervention into Kosovo was more an aberration. We were required to intervene under our NATO obligations. And the fact that the Serbs were committing genocide is a powerful no-no at least for Clinton types. Of course when Saddam was committing genocide against the Kurds we actually were providig aid to him.

But when all is said and done, I think its the oil that motivates us most when it comes to the ME. And consequently, we have stuck our nose into that area more times then I care to think about........and the irony is that we have only infrequently gotten the outcome we've desired for all our meddling.
