Thanks for the link. It does appear from the poll that the optimism is rooted in the desire for the US to get out of Iraq.

I definitely think it's time to withdraw and redeploy our troops.

They should be replaced by an international team of primarily Arabs. The US can continue in supportive roles such as training Iraqis and funding of the reconstruction.

The majority of troops sould be moved out of Iraq as quickly as possible.

This will be the fastest path to peace and security in Iraq. The Iraqis definitely agree with this as well.

Bush should move the ball forward and ask for a meeting with Arab and UN heads of state to discuss the transition. Unfortunately with Bush at the helm this will probably not happen. Therefore impeachment will have to be undertaken first.

The Iraqis do believe that they are better off with out Saddam. But that said many Iraqis are also disturbed by the influence of the Islamists, which are requiring women to take a secondary role and wear veils and such. While it appears that many Iraqis are secular in nature, they will give up some of their freedoms. They feel it's a fair trade off to be rid of Saddam. Being a proponet of separation of church and state, I'd like to see Iraqis not be under the rule of fundamentalists. It appears that now Iran will have a huge influence on Iraq.
