FX-64 vs FX-60 - -http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/05/23/amd_reinvents_itself/index.html - Seems never discussed on SI? It's the higher speed memory which takes off here: DDR-2 1000+,CL4. The rumors were that AM2 was delayed a bit because the boards had to be tweaked to be compatible with 800 MHz and 1,066 MHz DDR-2. In the test they use DIMMS with SLI which stores the memory parameter in a bit of free space of the serial eprom which all the DIMMS have. Seems it's going to be an official VESA standard. Athlon FX-62 overclocked to 3.048 GHz so we might call it an Athlon FX-64+ and uses DDR2-1016MHz with CL4. 800 MHz with CL3 won't be far behind or even a bit faster in a number of them. An Athlon FX66 (at 3.2 GHz) would pair nice with DDR2-1066 MHz with the 12x multiplier. AMD said it could increase speeds further to counter. A 3.4 GHz FX-68 could add another 8-10% to many of the benchmarks above. Regards, Hans.
