Lifeforms on earth are already living computers.

DNA data is digital, not analog. The base-pairs that describe all life on earth are specific sequences. This has important implications about reproduction and error correction.

It also brings up an interesting inverse to the article you supplied. It is likely that in the near future there will be adequate enough simulation of organic chemistry to allow complete lifeforms to live a life within the confines of an electronic computer. There is no theoretical reason this could not continue all the way to human lifeforms.
