"You aren't going to talk or reason people out of an idea like that. "

Maybe not. What I am proposing is that we take the argument out of the courts. Then nobody is 'legally' married; anyone who wants to can form a contractual legal commitment and call their relationship whatever they want but 'marriage' is not a legal term, which is what is really being argued.

Then if I am hetero and you are homo and we tell each other we are married to somebody, we can relate in one of the following ways:

1) Oh that's nice
2) ha ha ha you're kid'n ha ha ha
3) No your not, yes I am, no your not, yes I am
4) Love love love ahhhhh
5) I hate you
6) Walk away no comment
7) Wanna swap?
8) So what?
9) My way's better, no mine is, no mine is, no mine is
9) Why are you telling ME about it?
10) Gotta light?

None of which means anything to the government.
