I'm willing to listen. What good things do you attribute to reinventing government as promoted by Al Gore?

Here's what I remember: Office furniture that had been in use since God made the world was surplused, and our office space was basically gutted and redesigned with system furniture to the tune of several million dollars.

On the positive side it freed up office space so another agency could use it. The other agency needed more space but the extra space didn't meet the other agency's needs. It was fallowed and the agencies argued over who should pay for the unused space.

This project was supposed to take six months but it took two years. Everybody in the office had their routines upset for weeks while their space was redone.

The system furniture worked OK if a cubicle is your style, but less than six months after it was installed we got new department heads who didn't like their space and jimmied the design so they could have a window. The panels were intended for the original design, and when reconfigured did not look like they fit.

Everybody who represented their department in this exercise, myself included, got a nice cash award. I saw other people getting "reinvention" hammers signed by Al Gore for little unrelated stuff.

So did something good happen? What?
