Most folks think taking out the taliban in afganistan was necessary and should have been expanded to take out bin laden back then. But now afganistan seems to be coming undone. Is there no role for US military in this assymetric world? You see what i am getting at. What if iraq had wmds as believed back then and was planning to use them or hand them off to terrorists or whatever--in that scenario we would have had no choice but to attack, but if you are right we are always doomed to failure if we do--damned if we do, damned if we dont.
