I have to step back a bit. The women you're talking about are religiously observant as some of my relatives are when they go into church - they cover their heads. In neither case do they self-indulgently appropriate their religion and its customs as a justification/excuse/permission to oppress others: They don't ideologize it.

But that is what the batch of Ontario islamist terrorists have done, as do the taliban and al Qaida. For these people a veil or burqa is a vehicle of power and not a matter of religious observance or local mores.
