I think the reality is that the US really isn't sure what this new government is going to do. In that sense only, they are similar to the Taleban. We didn't know who the Taleban was or what the Taleban was going to do. Which is why the US says it's "troubled" by this change. They are troubled because they are Islamic and they should be troubled because they had supported the warlords. That makes it awkward to have a good relationship with a new government when you were funding the people that were trying to kill them.
