Good news for Arnold GOP Vixen By Bridget California Treasurer Phil Angelides has edged out Controller Steve Westly in theDemocratic gubernatorial primary, and this is really good news for Arnold Schwarzenegger come November. Angelides is basically a grumpy jerk who has a history of enough snippy soundbites to keep Arnold's PR team happily busy for the next several months. EBay founder Westly, on the other hand, is a reasoned and rational if boring guy who could have beat Arnold in November. So it's great news that Angelides won the primary. He won because liberal stalwarts and union bases turn out in primaries, and the moderates and swing voters aren't as motivated. He opposes sending National Guard to the Mexican border, which will help him crash and burn with swing voters. And he's really quite socialist -- he thinks he can pay for huge programs by taxing the rich (even more), never mind that taxing the rich too much makes them move out of California to a NORMAL tax state and there goes his cash cow. He rallied angry partisans with his whiny rhetoric, and that's enough to win a primary but not enough to whoop the Terminator.
